After an early breakfast departure from Merida, 6 hrs.driving toward Calakmul. We will spend the next 2 nights in a tented camp in Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in hopes of seeing a Jaguar. Jaguar tracking is done at night so there will be a variety of activities offered during the day. Jaguars are one of the most elusive animals in the world so sightings in the wild are very rare, but our experienced trackers will do their best to provide an exciting experience. Our camp is set in the jungle. The facilities in the camp are quite comfortable given its remote location. This first day we stop at the village of Xpuhil for an introduction of the area and conduct to our camping where after arriving we will take you to meet some of the local flora and fauna of the area into paths in the jungle or to a bat cave. (B and At the camp: D)

Today´s excursion is to the archeological site of Calakmul. This site was declared a few months ago, a world heritage site by the Onu. Calakmul was one of the biggest Mayan capitals in the classical period, it rivaled Guatemala´s Tikal, located mere 100 kilometers south. After visiting this site we will return to camp and by night will participate on a night walk in the jungle. (At the camp: B,L,D)

Becan represented an important political and military control place, and is the only one that was walled.  One of the most important attractions in Chicanna is a Mayan building reconstructed on a platform characteristics of the Rio Bec Style. The style of the Chenes shows baroque characteristics in the facade of the buildings. The entrances of these resemble the mouth of a monster, the principal gate represents a great mouth of the Chac God with large canine teeth which project over the lintel. You will see also the main building in Xpuhil has three enormous towers constructed in the architectural style of Rio Bec, with twelve rooms and platforms in whose center is a recess surrounded by a head of a serpent. In addition, there is a beautiful mask like a tiger which faces Becan. Transfer back to to the civilization.
